Shirley Chisholm: Unbossed & Unbowed, written and performed by Ingrid Griffith, is a powerful one-woman off-Broadway show that follows the story of Chisholm, an activist and the first Black woman to run for the United States presidential office. In an award-winning performance, Griffith takes on fifteen characters while charting Chisholm’s rise to office. Unbossed & Unbowed is underwritten and produced by Back Door Productions. Developing an innovative model utilizing Monday—or “dark”—night performances at New York’s West End Theatre, Back Door Productions takes advantage of typically unused time slots that support the show’s success.
